Your Game Stopped Improving Because Your Mind Did

2026-09-17 · From the video "Why Your Game Stopped Improving (Nobody Tells You This)"

You have watched thousands of drill videos. You show up. You put in the reps. You work hard. And your game still has not changed.

Here is what nobody tells you. Improvement does not stop when your body stops. It stops when your mind stops.

It is a thinking problem, not a skill problem

Most players spend all their time trying to copy what looks good on someone else’s highlight reel instead of figuring out what actually works for their own game.

That is not a skill problem. It is a thinking problem. More reps of the wrong thinking just make you better at staying stuck.

The players who improve think differently

The players who actually get better between games are not just working harder. They are thinking differently. They know their own tendencies, their own patterns, and how they react under real game pressure.

That is the work almost nobody is doing. Everyone wants the new move. Nobody wants to study themselves.

Know your own game first

Before your next run, get honest about three things. What do you default to when you are tired? What do you do when the pressure hits? What parts of your game only work when you are comfortable?

Your answers are your real training plan. The gap between the player you think you are and the player you actually are is where all your improvement is hiding.

Train the part that is actually holding you back

If your handle is fine in drills but disappears in games, you do not need more handle drills. You need pressure. If your shot is pure alone and shaky with a hand up, you do not need more form work. You need reps with consequences.

Match the training to the real problem. Most players train their strengths and avoid their truth. Flip that and the plateau breaks.

Basketball IQ Is Not What You Think It Is

Most recreational players confuse basketball knowledge with basketball IQ. Here is the difference, and why only one of them shows up when the game is on the line.
