The player in your head is better than you. That gap is not talent. It is identity, and it is the most underdeveloped asset in recreational basketball.
The core idea
Most players have never defined who they actually are as a player, so their game shifts every game based on how they feel, who is watching, or whether the first two shots go in. No identity means no baseline.
How to train it
- Write one sentence that defines your game at its best.
- Play to that sentence for a month and track your consistency.
- Refuse to freelance outside your identity when emotions spike.
